PRINCE OF WALES ARRIVAL

Prince of Wales arrives to Port Said, at the entrance of the Suez Canal, on the royal ship Victoria & Albert, while en route to India. The Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII (1841-1910), undertook a grand tour in 1875-1876 to the eastern reaches of the growing British Empire. Departing on October 11, 1875, he visited India and Ceylon, Egypt and Gibraltar, and, more briefly, Spain and Portugal. The visit was in preparation for Queen Victoria (1819-1901) to become Empress of India in 1877. Circa 1875
